2018 has arguably been a good year for for indie music. Not only did it see great new releases by The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys, it also saw the return of indie veterans such as Razorlight, The Kooks, and Interpol. Besides these established acts, the best indie albums 2018 also included exciting debut albums such as Pale Waves’ My Mind Makes Noises or The Academic’s Tales From The Backseat. Check out our list of the best indie albums 2018 to see what you might have missed this year.

The Wombats will be taking their powerful pop rock on a huge stadium tour early in 2019.

07. Roosevelt – Young Romance

Marius Lauber, the German singer, musician and producer behind Roosevelt got his sunny side up on his second album Young Romance. With his sun-kissed melodies and 80s inspired synths, Roosevelt picked up where his 2016 debut left off.

06. DMA’s – For Now

The Sydney rockers’ second album was released in April and saw DMA’s further develop their sound. While the band can still be compared to Oasis, For Now also stepped out of the band’s comfort zone with more synths and electronic excursions.

Aussie trio Middle Kids have surprised us with their debut album Lost Friends. The album not only gained them critical acclaim but also a support slot with Bloc Party as well as a sold out headline tour.

02. Arctic Monkeys – Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

Arctic Monkeys’ sixth album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is without a doubt one of the best indie albums 2018, albeit also the most controversial one. Replacing their signature guitar riffs with a Steinway piano, the Sheffield band have crafted a bold and brilliant record.

Black Honey’s debut album has been a long time coming. With their 60s style indie rock and Tarantino inspired aesthetics, the group surrounding frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips have released not only an amazing debut album but also the best indie album of the year.
