Derry-based artist ROE has just dropped the first half of her much anticipated debut album That’s When The Panic Sets In. The 6 track release includes previous singles I Dare You, A Temporary Thing, as well as the latest track, I Can Change, which is also out today.

ROE comments on the album:

Every now and then I lie awake at night feeling guilty about something that happened 5 years ago, or thinking about what I should have said instead of what actually came out of my mouth. This song is about an irrational need to please everyone and the gut-wrenching anxiety I get from being human. At 1am inside a supermarket in Reykjavik in 2019, a decision was made to postpone my debut album. Part I of ‘That’s When The Panic Sets In’ is the first glimpse of the artist I became after that conversation. These songs are a documentary of my inner most thoughts and insecurities over the past couple years. It feels like a lot to hand them off to the world, but there’s also some kind of huge relief in that: like this is who I am and what I’m capable of.

That’s When The Panic Sets In follows on from last year’s single Cruel, which saw her playlisted for the first time on BBC Radio 1.

The Derry-based artist left college to tour the world and concentrate on writing songs. In 2020, ROE crossed 1 million streams on Spotify with her EP Things We Don’t Talk About, which was the culmination of 4 years of writing, releasing and touring as a completely independent artist.

As a teenager, she was a coveted artist on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury 2017, which led her to perform all over the world including Europe, North America, India, and on tour with Snow Patrol. ROE’s music has been featured in TV and radio campaigns for BBC Music NI, and in ITV’s “The Only Way is Essex”, Channel 4’s “Made in Chelsea”, and Netflix’s “Terrace House”.

ROE is part of our New Indie Bands playlist.
