Recommended: Kafka Tamura

kafka-tamura-wide-840Deriving their band name from the protagonist of the surrealist Japanese novel Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami, Kafka Tamura formed in 2012, when two German musicians, Patrick Bongers and Gabriel Häuser, stumbled upon the Soundcloud musings of then 16 year old vocalist Emma Dawkins. The first song ideas were born in an exchange of emails but it was not until January 2013 that they met in Southampton to record and shoot a video for their debut single Somewhere Else which soon garnered them a solid fanbase. Throughout 2014 the band toured extensively throughout Europe, playing festivals and headliner shows, and supporting buzz band Milky Chance.

In the summer of 2014 the trio signed a record deal with Lichtdicht Records, covering Germany, Switzerland and Austria, who also have Milky Chance under their belt. Later that year they began working on their debut album Nothing To Everyone, out June 12th. No Hope was the first single to be released from the album in February, a piano driven ballad with just a hint of tropical guitars and shallow beats. What really pulls you in though are Emma Dawkins’ vocals. With a voice well beyond her years she carries reminiscences of Florence Welch (of Florence + The Machine). The single has recently been remixed by Winterkind, an emerging electronic artist from Germany. Both, the single and the remix are available to stream below.
