Leeds-based quartet Marsicans have just revealed their first single of 2018, titled Wake Up Freya. Written for singer James Newbigging’s niece just before she was born, the new track exhibits a softer side of the band. Listen below.

It was a particularly bad news day and I started thinking about how amazing the world is when you’re young, compared to how fucked up everything seems to be when you’re older. The song was written as if I was talking to her. It’s about taking stock of everything that’s good around you and how eventually it’s those people and moments that count rather than all the perpetual shit that surrounds you.
Having been included by Huw Stephens in his ‘Alternative Tips for 2018’, the guys were invited to record a session in the iconic Maida Vale studios, to be broadcast out on Radio 1 just before Wake Up Freya’s release. The entire session is available to watch below.

Marsicans have come a long way since supporting then up-and-coming Catfish & The Bottlemen at a small venue in Wakefield. The last 1 1/2 years have seen Marsicans play sold-out shows in Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Lincoln, plus European dates, and a Glastonbury performance.
2017 has been a busy your for Marsicans. The band has toured Jaws, Hippo Campus & Clean Cut Kid, as well as completed their own run of headline shows across the UK. Their biggest headline shows to date have been announced for March. Support comes from Edinburgh upstarts Vistas. All dates can be found below.
