Maison Hall

Maison Hall. is a musical collective helmed by 21-year-old Brisbane native Joe Kneipp. They’re debut album It Was Never About Me (recorded as a duo with drummer Ben Byron) was born of a spontaneous jaunt to country Queensland and is available on a name your price basis via bandcamp.

The album was crafted in a dilapidated masonic hall across the road from Joe’s old primary school over six days with only rudimental recording. Joe and his friend Ben and Matt packed their gear into Joe’s car and drove four hours to Joe’s hometown of Goondiwindi without the intention of making an album.

It was so important to just sing these 10 silly songs, songs I wrote when I was 18, songs about inconsequential, existential, angsty, pervasive restlessness and (whatever!).

College Sports is one of the results of this session and it sounds remarkably better than a lot of studio versions these days. It’s a jangly lo-fi track about girls, restlessness and, you know, whatever. Although it’s only 1:48 minutes long, the track is instantly catchy. Listen below or get it on bandcamp.
