Having recently announced their new album How Many Dreams? for release on 31st March 2023 via I OH YOU, Aussie rockers DMA’s share new album cut Fading Like A Picture. The track follows on from previously released singles Olympia, I Don’t Need To Hide and Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend.

The accompanying video was directed by acclaimed filmmakers DIVISON (A$AP ROCKY, Rosalía, Megan Thee Stallion). Check it out below.

The new song follows on from the album’s lead single Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend which the band shared recently alongside a video starring actor Gemma Chua-Tran of Aussie Netflix series “Heartbreak High”.

Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend is like a summerly breeze; it’s uplifting and altogether bound to be another massive DMA’s sing-along. Speaking to us during their support tour for Kasabian, main songwriter and guitarist Johnny Took told Indie Is Not A Genre about the meaning behind the track:

I was on the phone with my friend and he’s like, “hey Jonny come down and have a beer”. I was like, “oh, what day is it?” – “It is Thursday”, I was like, “that’s basically the weekend”, you know, and everyone has said that before, but I’d never heard that in a song. So I wrote it down and when I wrote the song it was all based around that opening line.

Johnny Took (DMA’s)

He commented further:

‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’, we’ve all thought it, we’ve all felt it. This song is about letting go of the things that weigh us down and embracing the future with a sense of optimism. Stepping in the ‘Right light in the dark times’.

Written during the pandemic, How Many Dreams? was recorded in London with Stuart Price (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys) and Rich Costey (Sigur Ros, Muse, Foster the People), before it was completed in the band’s hometown of Sydney with Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, The Jungle Giants). As the band said chatting to us:

We’ve been trying to make this new record more uplifting, sounding more hopeful. We didn’t really want to dwell too much on the negatives of Covid. We wanted to look to the future, for the positive with this new record and move forward, you know, feeling feeling good about it, excited even.

New single I Don’t Need To Hide out now

The announcement follows on from recent single I don’t need to hide. The new song arrives alongside a stunning Lucy Knox directed video.

I don’t need to hide takes vocalist Tommy O’Dell’s vocal capabilities to the next level as he croons the lyrics “Thinking about a better time, Thinking about a better way to love, So I don’t need to hide.” Guitarist and primary songwriter Johnny Took told Indie Is Not A Genre about the meaning behind the single:

We’re all in long-term relationships now. And I’m sure it’s something that a lot of people find when they find a relationship like that where you can just completely be yourself and that person will love you.

How Many Dreams? follows on from last year’s surprise EP I Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You and their 2020 album The Glow that peaked at position 4 in the UK album charts.
