Manchester’s Blanketman have today announced their debut EP, National Trust, which is set to be released on March 19th 2021 via PIAS. Alongside the announcement, the band have also shared their new single, Harold. Listen below.

Harold is a wonky, rowdy number which may be seen as the band’s boldest move yet. The track celebrates the north of England and uses the north-south divide as its backdrop.

Speaking about Harold, lead guitarist Daniel Held states,

Harold is an ode to that crippling fright in the night. To things that don’t go bump, but go “aaargh” The song spasmed into existence after a series of unsavoury night terrors that prompted to me don my guitar, tune the strings to a level of arse-clenching tension, screw my eyes shut tight and, like a deranged jet-setter randomly spinning a tiny globe in search of the next destination, I slammed a capo onto the neck in a state of near frenzy. I tentatively opened an eye. Fourth fret. I picked up a pen as ideas began to fizz, but thought better of it, had a beer and wrote it later.’

With only two singles under their belts, Blanketman have gained huge support from the likes of Clash, DIY, NME and So Young, alongside plays from Jack Saunders and Annie Mac at BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq.

National Trust looks at themes of feeling trapped and anxious but also is hopeful for the eventual salvation from that feeling.
