Kytes are a four piece from Bavaria, Germany bursting into the scene with their debut single Inner Cinema. The vocals and tropical guitars immediately reminded me of acts such as Two Door Cinema Club, Satellite Stories or Phoenix.
When asked about the title, drummer and lyricist Timothy Lush replied: “The songs title makes it clear that we all have our own film running in our heads, be it fiction or fantasy. It’s the cinema inside our own head keeps us all pretty busy“. (Actually, the Germans have a word for that: Kopfkino).
Inner Cinema, the video for which was recorded in Brighton, is definitely a perfect song to start a sunny day and give in to the movie playing in your head while you distract yourself from work. Stream and/or watch below.
Kytes were only formed recently but they did not come out of nowhere. All four members have been friends for most of their lives and have played together for many years under a different moniker (Blind Freddy) before rebooting the band as Kytes. That is probably why Inner Cinema, despite being their debut track, sounds so mature and perfectly produced. (This is pretty much what The 1975 did and you all know where it got them.)
With song and video premieres on international music websites such as Clash and Noisey, Kytes mean business. Keep an eye out for these guys, I’ll bet we’ll hear a lot more from them in no time.
Kytes will play their debut show at Strom, Munich on Friday June 12th.
