Recommended: Joseph Costello (The Tunics)

Joseph CostelloJoseph Costello was the frontman and vocalist of former rock band The Tunics who released two critically acclaimed albums, Somewhere in Somebody’s Heart (2008) and Dabbler’s Handbook (2011) and several EPs before they eventually split in 2013. They have toured with bands such as Nada Surf and Cage The Elephant as well as playing their own headline tours.

The Tunics were originally from Croydon but spent the last couple of years in Berlin were they recorded and released their final EP that went by the telling name By The Time You Hear This We’ll Be Miles Away which we awarded a four out of five.

Singer and songwriter Joseph Costello who has recently taken up his studies at the University of Durham continues making music of his own. He has uploaded a few demos to his new soundcloud page for you to check out. Two of these were written while he was still with The Tunics, namely All Shall Be Revealed which they frequently performed but never recorded and As You Were. Having heard these tunes before I must say they work really well solo. His songs cover the usual topics like love and loss but also carry on the themes of The Tunics’ work via forms of political and social critique.

If you don’t know The Tunics you can stream their albums in full on soundcloud and download the latest EP for free from their bandcamp.

Joe will also play his first solo show this Sunday June 8th at Folkfest at The Bedford, Balham in London.
